Premier League football, suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, had to go behind closed doors following last month’s restart, and the club has emailed supporters detailing how they can apply for pro-rata refunds, or a credit note, for missed games.

Fans have also been asked to “assist the club in adjusting to the significant impact of the coronavirus pandemic” by taking a credit note, if possible.

United will start processing refunds on July 27, and fans should receive the money owed within 30 days of this date.

Supporters could be back inside St James’s Park early next season, and head coach Steve Bruce said: “I think we all need fans back in the game. That’s what makes it the spectacle. It’s not quite the same when it’s behind closed doors.”
