'Signed' - Fabrizio Romano confirms imminent Newcastle United transfer of Champions League midfielder

Newcastle United are set to confirm the signing of Aladji Bamba from AS Monaco.

Newcastle United are set to finalise a move for their fourth summer signing.

20-year-old midfielder Aladji Bamba is set to complete a £30million move to Newcastle from AS Monaco.

The France Under-20 international broke into the Monaco side in Ligue 1 last season and went on to make 25 appearances, including five times in the Champions League.

The deal sees Newcastle continue a youthful recruitment strategy this summer following the signings of Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure and Sean Steur, who are all under the age of 21.

Bamba is on Tyneside to complete his medical and finalise his move from Monaco. Newcastle are set to play their first public pre-season match at Gateshead on Saturday (12:30pm kick-off).

By that point, Bamba is set to be officially confirmed as a Newcastle player.

Transfer narrative expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the young midfielder has signed a contract at Newcastle.

Romano tweeted: “Aladji Bamba has just signed his contract as new Newcastle player from AS Monaco.”

Bamba’s arrival comes after the £100million departure of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur and amid the intense transfer speculation surrounding Bruno Guimaraes. Another midfielder, Joe Willock, has been heavily linked with a move away from the club with sources in Turkey suggesting he is close to a move to Besiktas.

Sources back on Tyneside have suggested Willock’s exit is not imminent but haven’t ruled out a potential move.

Bamba will join to help bolster Newcastle’s midfield but brings with it some risk due to his limited experience of top-level football. Supporters will be paying close attention to him in pre-season to see how he initially adapts to his new surroundings.
