Newcastle have lost just once in the Premier League this season with that defeat coming at Liverpool in August. Since then, Eddie Howe’s side have been in fine form, going 12 games unbeaten.
The Magpies went nine games unbeaten under Howe between December 2021 and March 2022 last season but have gone two better this season as they head into 2023.
Here we look at Newcastle’s longest unbeaten runs in the Premier League over the course of the same season. We won’t be including the 11 or 17 game unbeaten streaks in the Championship in 2016-17 and 2009-10 respectively, or the 14 game streak over two seasons in 2011 – only Premier League matches during the same season since the club were promoted in 1993.

5. 2003-04: 8 matches
Sir Bobby Robson's final full season at Newcastle saw the club go on an eight game unbeaten run which included four draws and four wins between January and March 2004. It was ended by a 1-0 defeat at Tottenham as the club finished fifth in the Premier League. Photo: Stu Forster

6. 2002-03: 9 games
The season that saw Newcastle's highest Premier League finish of the 21st Century also saw one of the club's longest Premier League unbeaten runs as they won seven and drew two of nine matches between December 2002 and March 2003. The run was ended by a 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough but Sir Bobby Robson's side still ended the campaign in third place. Photo: Ross Kinnaird

7. 2021-22: 9 games
The Magpies' 2-1 win at Southampton saw them go nine games unbeaten during the 2021-22 campaign. Six wins and three draws saw Eddie Howe's side climb up the table but the turnaround is made even more impressive due to the fact United had won just one game all season prior to the run. 8. 1996-97: 10 games
The end of the 1996-97 season saw Newcastle go on a 10 game unbeaten run to finish second in the Premier League under Kenny Dalglish. The run included five wins and five draws. The Magpies extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches after winning their opening two games the following season only for the run to end with a 3-1 defeat against Wimbledon. Photo: Stu Forster
