Joelinton & Newcastle United duo facing Carabao Cup punishment after Bruno Guimaraes ban - on two conditions
Newcastle United v Fulham: Eddie Howe’s side have three players at risk of a Carabao Cup ban.
Newcastle United are back in Carabao Cup action at St James’ Park on Wednesday evening as they host fellow Premier League side Fulham (8:15pm kick-off).

The Magpies beat Fulham 2-1 at St James’ Park back in October thanks to a late Bruno Guimaraes winner.
Eddie Howe’s side have reached the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup in each of the last four seasons and will be looking to advance to the semi-final in a bid to retain the trophy they won back in March.
Newcastle are looking for a reaction from Sunday’s 1-0 derby defeat at Sunderland in a game that could end up having some say on the reverse fixture. If The Magpies lose to Fulham, then the Tyne-Wear derby will go ahead as scheduled at St James’ Park on the weekend of March 21.
But if Newcastle advance through to the final for the third time in four seasons, then the derby match would have to be rescheduled as the Carabao Cup final is set to take place on March 22 at Wembley Stadium.
In the meantime, Newcastle have players at risk of a ban in the Carabao Cup - should they progress to the semi-final.
Newcastle United trio at risk of Carabao Cup ban
Heading into the Fulham match, Newcastle have four players who are one Carabao Cup booking away from a ban.
As per Carabao Cup rules, any player who is booked twice before the semi-final stage of the competition is handed a one-match ban in that competition only. Unlike red cards, yellow card suspensions do not carry over into different competitions.
It leaves a small margain of error for players with just two bookings leading to a ban. Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes was shown his second booking of the competition in the 3-1 win over Brentford in the quarter-final last season and had to miss the semi-final first leg at Arsenal as a result.
This season, Malick Thiaw, Fabian Schar and Joelinton have been booked once in the Carabao Cup and a booking against Fulham would see them handed a suspension for the first leg of the semi-final, should Newcastle get there. Kieran Trippier is also one booking away from a suspension but has been ruled out of the match due to injury.
While yellow cards do not transfer through competitions, red cards do domestcially.

Newcastle United Premier League suspension latest
Newcastle have Guimaraes at risk of a Premier League ban after picking up his fourth booking of the season in the 1-0 defeat at Sunderland on Sunday.
“According to The FA's disciplinary rules,” the Premier League website reads. “Any player who earns five bookings from their side's first 19 Premier League matches of a season will have to serve a one-match ban in the same competition. Premier League yellow cards are not carried over to the EFL Cup or FA Cup.
“Players who accumulate 10 yellow cards in Premier League matches up to and including their side's 32nd fixture will serve a two-match suspension in the competition.”
Those rules mean Guimaraes must avoid being booked against Chelsea, Manchester United or Burnley to ensure he is not handed a one-match ban. If he is shown a yellow card this weekend, then he will miss the trip to Old Trafford - one which will be a huge blow to Newcastle United’s chances of picking up a second-straight away win against the Red Devils.
Only a red card against Fulham on Wednesday night will prevent Guimaraes from featuring against the Blues on Saturday. That is because accumulated yellow card suspensions do not carry over from league to cup action.
Dan Burn and Joelinton are also at risk of a possible Premier League ban, although both will have to be booked twice in their next three outings in order to meet the threshold required. Burn is set to miss those games due to injury so will avoid a suspension.
Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey need to be shown yellow cards in all of Newcastle United’s next three Premier League matches to be handed a one-match ban.

UEFA rules set to ban NUFC star in Champions League
Newcastle also have some players at risk of a Champions League bans heading into the final two group phase matches against PSV Eindhoven and Paris Saint-Germain.
Joelinton is just one booking away from a ban having been booked in Newcastle’s opening two group phase matches but hasn’t picked up a booking since.
Should the Brazilian pick up another yellow card in Newcastle’s remaining two group phase matches or subsequent knockout fixtures, he will be banned for one match.
Dan Burn is also at risk of a ban having been shown his second booking in the competition last time out in Marseille. Another booking before the semi-final stage would see him handed a one-match ban.
All yellow cards expire on completion of the quarter-finals and are not carried forward to the semi-finals.
Malick Thiaw, Joe Willock and Anthony Gordon are the only other Magpies players who have been shown yellow cards in the Champions League this season. The trio would have to be booked a further two times in order to face a ban.
The only exception is if they were to be shown a red card, as is the same with any player.
Article 63.01 of the UEFA Champions League regulations states that a red card in the Champions League is an automatic one-match suspension in that competition and does not carry over into other competitions.
