Newcastle United close to transfer breakthrough as target arrives on Tyneside
Ryan Fraser is on Tyneside for talks with Steve Bruce over a move to Newcastle United.
The winger is a free agent after leaving Bournemouth this summer, and the Gazette revealed earlier this week that the club was “very close” to reaching an agreement with the 26-year-old.
Fraser flew into Newcastle International Airport on owner Mike Ashley’s private jet earlier today to discuss a move with head coach Bruce. United hope to finalise a deal ahead of tomorrow’s home friendly against Stoke City.
Newcastle have been pursuing Fraser – who didn’t sign a contract extension at Bournemouth so he could play after last season’s summer restart – for two years.
United have signed two other free agents – midfielder Jeff Hendrick and goalkeeper Mark Gillespie – so far this summer. The club is also pursuing a deal for Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson.
