According to the Daily Telegraph, Steve Bruce is closing in on a loan signing, which could be announced today.
Two players who have been heavily linked are Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury and Manchester United’s Brandon Williams.
The Gazette revealed at the beginning of the month United had agreed the framework to bring Williams to St James’s Park, though it was a question of if he’d be allowed to leave Old Trafford.
However, the latest name to be linked with a move to Tyneside is Sampdoria defender Omar Colley, as per Primo Canale via Sport Witness.
Apparently, the Magpies have “come forward again”, with conversations ongoing with his representatives.
The Serie A club are open to selling the Gambian and a fee of £7million has been touted elsewhere. There is, however, strong interest from Fenerbahce.
The central defence area at Newcastle has taken a hit in recent weeks – Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett have all been ruled out of the previous two matches.
Graeme Jones was confirmed as assistant head coach to Bruce on Wednesday after compensation was agreed with Bournemouth – and the South Coast outfit are eyeing another piece of business involving the two club.
The Cherries, according to the Daily Mail, are trying to re-sign Matt Ritchie, four-and-a-half years after he left the Vitality Stadium to join the Magpies.
No agreement has been reached yet and there is no mention of including soon-to-be out-of-contract Josh King as a part of a swap deal.
Meanwhile, PSV Eindhoven full-back Chris Gloster has seen a potential move to the North East fall through.
Here’s a round-up of some of the other transfer rumours involving Newcastle, including Gloster, and their top-flight rivals this morning:
