Newcastle United defender being assessed in hospital after heavy collision

Newcastle United loanee Kell Watts was stretchered off early in Plymouth Argyle’s 1-0 loss away to Gillingham.

The 21-year-old was stretchered off following a heavy collision with Gills attacker Vadaine Oliver.

The incident came just seconds into the match.

Watts received oxygen as part of long treatment as he was attended to by medical staff.

Watts was eventually stretchered off the pitch with special attention being paid to his neck and head.

Argyle issued an update on Watts on their social media accounts during the second half.

The League One club stated that the defender was conscious and had been taken to a local hospital.
