Newcastle United and Liverpool target in future admission as Fabrizio Romano gives 'dream move' update
The latest transfer talk from St James Park as Newcastle United prepare for the January transfer window.
Newcastle United transfer target Kees Smit has opened up on his future with Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar - and dropped a major hint over what could lie ahead.
The highly-rated midfielder has been linked with several of European football’s biggest clubs after coming through the Alkmaar youth system and establishing himself as one of Dutch football’s brightest prospects. At the age of just 19, Smit has already scored four goals and provided seven assists in 58 senior appearances and his style of play has drawn comparisons with former Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne.
His performances have also prompted talk of a maiden call-up to the Netherlands senior squad after Smit became a regular in the Under-19s and Under-21s setup in recent seasons. However, it is speculation over the midfielder’s future at club level that has dominated the headlines in recent months with the likes of Newcastle, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Barcelona all reported as keen admirers of his talents.
When asked if a move could be on the agenda, the Netherlands Under-21 midfielder told De Telegraaf: “Yes, I think so. I think six months, or a year and a half. After that, I hope to have made a good move. I don’t find it (the speculation) difficult to deal with. I actually think it’s quite nice, and I’ve started thinking about it. Like imagine if it actually happens?”
Serie A giants want ‘impossible’ move for Newcastle star

Serie A giants Juventus have a long-term interest in a Newcastle United star and ‘dream’ of securing a big money move in the future.
Magpies midfielder Sandro Tonali has been linked with a move back to Serie A on several occasions since he joined Newcastle in a reported £60m deal during the summer of 2023. Since then, the Italy international has established himself as a key member of Eddie Howe’s squad and was part of the Magpies side that brought an end to the club’s 70-year wait for major domestic silverware when they lifted the Carabao Cup last season.
Despite an agreement triggering a one-year extension in Tonali’s deal that commits the midfielder to Newcastle until the summer of 2029 - and some reports have suggested the Magpies also hold an option to extend that deal by another 12 months. However, talk of a move back to Serie A is still prominent and journalist Fabrizio Romano has now reported Juventus ‘dream’ of landing the midfielder.
Speaking on his Italian YouTube channel, Romano said: “There is not the slightest doubt that Sandro Tonali is an absolute favourite of Juventus, and when I say Juventus, I mean everyone at Juventus, also involving the new coach Luciano Spalletti, but above all Damien Comolli. Comolli, last summer, wanted to try in every way to bring Sandro Tonali to Juventus. It was not possible. It will not be possible, as far as I understand, also in the January market, to break down Newcastle’s wall. It seems to me to be an almost impossible task.
“What I can tell you is that Juventus keep Tonali on their list and will keep him there. Juventus does not intend to remove the name of Sandro Tonali from their shortlist. So, certainly the name of Sandro Tonali as a Juventus dream for the future has been kept for a long time.”
