Newcastle United fail with 'astronomical' offer

Luis Campos has turned down an “astronomical” offer from Newcastle United, according to a report.

Lille’s sporting director is wanted by the club’s would-be owners, according to L’Equipe.

Campos – who made his name as a sporting director at Monaco – is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 55-year-old helped launch the careers of Anthony Martial, Thomas Lemar, and Bernardo Silva.

Steve Nickson, Newcastle’s head of recruitment, faces an uncertain future at St James’s Park if the proposed takeover is given the go-ahead.
