Newcastle United favourite delivers Matthias Jaissle verdict and makes ambition claim
Newcastle United have experienced mixed fortunes during the early months of Matthias Jaissle’s reign.
Former Newcastle United favourite Lee Clark has warned head coach Matthias Jaissle and a new-look Magpies squad must be given time to adapt to the Premier League.
The former RB Salzburg and Al-Ahli head coach was a somewhat surprising appointment as successor to Eddie Howe during the summer and he has experienced a challenging start to life in England. After a promising first week of the season that brought four points from a home game against Liverpool and a visit to Tottenham Hotspur, Jaissle’s side won just two of their following six league games.
The Magpies headed into Monday night’s home game with Everton looking to bounce back from the Carabao Cup exit at the hands of the Toffees but could only serve up another lacklustre display and uninspiring defeat.

With several young players and their head coach still getting to grips with life in the top tier of the English game, former Magpies star Clark has insisted implementing a new approach ‘was always going to be a difficult task’ and warned Jaissle must be given time to make things work.
Speaking on Keys & Gray Unleashed, Clark said: “Our new manager has a history of player development in the Red Bull organisation in the Austrian Bundesliga at Salzburg and then in the Saudi Pro League. I think that was his remit. I think that was the reason Eddie wanted to come out of it because he wanted to carry on with going for trying to get the next level of player.
“The club have changed their ambitions and wanted to go down the untried, the youngsters and developing them and possibly selling them on for big money like we have in the past.
“That is going to take time, especially when most of those players have no Premier League experience. It’s completely different to any other league in the world and to throw seven or eight youngsters in there, untried and untested Premier League players, was always going to be a difficult ask.”
