The Magpies will go in search of four Premier League wins in a row when they face Saints on Sunday following impressive wins over Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa. Making these wins more impressive is the fact they secured victory without their star-man Allan Saint-Maximin who has been continuing his recovery from injury.

Other than two small cameos off the bench against Brentford and Villa, Saint-Maximin hasn’t been seen in action for Newcastle since August, however, there is a chance he could feature on the south coast this weekend. The Frenchman has been pictured in training with the Newcastle first-team ahead of Sunday’s game with hopes that he can make his long-awaited return to Eddie Howe’s starting XI sooner rather than later.

Saint-Maximin will hope he can make an appearance at a venue he has good memories of after he scored the winner in this fixture in March 2020 - a game that would end up being Newcastle’s last match before the Premier League was temporarily suspended because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Jonjo Shelvey, who is yet to start a game for United this season, could also be fit enough to start for Howe’s side.

One man that won’t feature for the Magpies on Sunday will be Joelinton who will miss the game through suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season during the win over Villa on Saturday.
