Allan Saint-Maximin makes his first start following an injury lay off against West Ham United but Wilson remains on the bench this afternoon, with Joelinton continuing up top.

"We've erred with a little caution with Callum,” said Bruce to Sky Sports.

"Another week of training and he will be right to start."

On the challenge facing his side this afternoon, Bruce continued: "It is an opportunity but we are against a decent team, playing well.

"The situation is better than two weeks ago but there is still a lot of work to do. It is important we keep mentality right."

United are six points clear of the bottom three and could make that nine with a win against surprise Champions League chasers West Ham at St James’ Park.
