Callum Wilson of Newcastle United celebrates after scoring his team's first goal during the Premier League match between Everton and Newcastle United at Goodison Park on January 30, 2021 in Liverpool, England.

Allan Saint-Maximin makes his first start following an injury lay off against West Ham United but Wilson remains on the bench this afternoon, with Joelinton continuing up top.

"We've erred with a little caution with Callum,” said Bruce to Sky Sports.

"Another week of training and he will be right to start."

On the challenge facing his side this afternoon, Bruce continued: "It is an opportunity but we are against a decent team, playing well.

"The situation is better than two weeks ago but there is still a lot of work to do. It is important we keep mentality right."

United are six points clear of the bottom three and could make that nine with a win against surprise Champions League chasers West Ham at St James’ Park.
