Steve Bruce’s side have confirmed friendlies against York City, Harrogate Town, Rotherham United and Burton Albion ahead of their Premier League opener with West Ham on Sunday, August 15.

The club are expected to announce further matches to add to their pre-season programme and according to the Liverpool Echo, one of those could be against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.

Klopp is keen to face top-tier opposition before the competitive season gets underway and Covid-19 regulations have made it difficult to travel overseas.

Instead, Liverpool are looking into the possibility of playing a Premier League club, and they’re reportedly hopeful of that being Newcastle or Aston Villa in early August.

The Merseyside club were keen to avoid facing any Premier League teams they are due to play in the early stages of the campaign.

Bruce’s men don't face Liverpool until Wednesday, December 15, which is at Anfield, so are viewed as ideal opponents along with Villa.
