Newcastle United 'keep close eye' on former Sunderland defender following impressive campaign
Newcastle United are interested in former Sunderland loanee Dion Sanderson, according to a report.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers defender spent last season on loan at the League One club.
Sanderson had a strong season on Wearside, and is interesting a clutch of clubs this summer. Sunderland have reportedly had a bid of £1million for the 21-year-old rejected by Wolves, understood to rate Sanderson in the £2million-bracket.
And Newcastle United according to the Daily Mail, are “keeping a close eye on the development” of Sanderson, who played against the club in the Premier League Asia Trophy in China the season before last. United, looking to keep the experienced Federico Fernandez beyond the expiry of his contract at St James’s Park, have been linked with a number of defenders this summer, notably Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer.
