And Newcastle United according to the Daily Mail, are “keeping a close eye on the development” of Sanderson, who played against the club in the Premier League Asia Trophy in China the season before last. United, looking to keep the experienced Federico Fernandez beyond the expiry of his contract at St James’s Park, have been linked with a number of defenders this summer, notably Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer.

Relegated Sheffield United are also understood to be keen on Sanderson, who made 26 League One appearances last season.
