Newcastle United land home cup draw during coronavirus suspension
Leyton Orient’s social media team have organised a FIFA 20 tournament, labelled Ultimate Quaran-Team, between 128 clubs around the world.
The idea came about after fixtures at home and abroad were postponed by the coronavirus pandemic. A statement from the League Two club read: “The initiative is one borne out of the desire to bring clubs together during a time of unprecedented measures.”
Orient have set up a JustGiving page. Money raised will go towards helping cash-strapped EFL clubs as well as the MIND charity and research into Covid-19. Orient added: “We ask you to join us in a fundraising campaign that could have some real-world consequences.”
Newcastle – who will be represented by gamer PlanetToast were drawn at home to League One club Gillingham. The club tweeted: “A home draw. We're delighted to have @PlanetToast1 representing us!”
