According to Italian publication Tuttosport, is the only player sent out on loan by the Serie A side who could be handed the chance to revive their careers at the San Siro.

The Austrian international signed a short-term loan deal with Steve Bruce’s Magpies in January, with a £20million-plus buy out clause inserted in the temporary deal.

It remains to be seen whether United would decide to activate that clause with Lazaro having an underwhelming start to life on Tyneside before the coronavirus outbreak put English football on lockdown.

And while Inter are reportedly ready to bin Mauro Icardi, Radja Nainggolan, Joao Mario, Dalbert and Ivan Perisic, 24-year-old Lazaro may be given a second chance, despite a number of Bundesliga outfits, including RB Leipzig, retaining an interest.

Speaking to Sport.oe24.at earlier this month, Lazaro discussed his relationship with his former Inter teammates.

When asked whether he is still in contact with any of them, he said: “Of course I am still in contact with some players, especially Romelu Lukaku, with whom I am very close friends.

“Unfortunately it is very bad in Milan at the moment. The Inter players are all at home of course. There are a lot of deaths per day in Italy, one can only hope that the whole country will recover as soon as possible.”

When asked about his contribution to the coronavirus crisis, Lazaro said: “We have now seen how vulnerable we are as human beings and therefore have to take precautions in different directions in the future.

“It is very hard how the whole society has been hit. You just have to tackle it together, help together and see how you can fight your way out of it in the near future so that everything can go back to normal. And then you appreciate it when you have freedom again and can live healthy without fear.”

Lazaro was one of four players signed on loan by United in 2019/20, alongside Jetro Willems, Nabil Bentaleb and Danny Rose.
