Lookman, signed last summer from Everton in a £22million deal, has found his Bundesliga opportunities limited, and the 22-year-old is reportedly keen to move in this month’s transfer window.
However, the Gazette understands that Newcastle are looking for a loan with an option, and NOT an obligation, to buy Lookman at the end of the season.
Speaking about the transfer window at the weekend, head coach Steve Bruce said: “We’ve had a couple of knock-backs already. We’ll keep working away. It’s very, very difficult. I won’t just bring in players for the sake of it. We’ll see what the next two or three weeks bring.”
Lookman started his career at Charlton Athletic under Karl Robinson. Robinson said: “He does stuff you don’t expect. He gets on the ball, and you think ‘something’s going to happen here’
