Rodrigo Vilca is due on Tyneside later this week to complete a move to St James’s Park. The 21-year-old midfielder will play his last game for Deportivo Municipal tomorrow night before heading to England, according to Peruvian journalist Diego Montalvan. Vilca – who will reportedly cost United £250,000 – could be loaned out by Newcastle in January.

“Municipal have accepted the offer for Rodrigo Vilca,” said Montalvan. “He will play his last match on Wednesday, and plan for his trip to England. He will be with the club, and then in January decide whether to loan him out or not.”

Asked about Vilca earlier this month, United head coach Steve Bruce said: “I’m not going to comment on names. You can never say never, but I’m very pleased at what we’ve done.”

Bruce has already signed four players – Callum Wilson, Jeff Hendrick, Jamal Lewis and Mark Gillespie – in this transfer window.
