Newcastle United dressing room stance on Matthias Jaissle revealed as tactics questioned
Matthias Jaissle’s tactics have come under scrutiny following back-to-back defeats for Newcastle United.
Malick Thiaw insists he and his Newcastle United teammates are “100%” behind Matthias Jaissle.
The German was only appointed as the Magpies’ head coach at the beginning of August but has already come under intense scrutiny following back-to-back defeats against Coventry City and Aston Villa.
There are concerns over Jaissle’s system, which has seen his side concede more shots than any other team in the Premier League this season, while only Coventry City, Hull City and Tottenham Hotspur have a worse expected goals tally.

During Saturday night’s 1-0 defeat at home to Villa, Newcastle managed just one shot on target through centre-back Sven Botman.
‘100% follows’ - Newcastle United squad behind Matthias Jaissle
Despite the recent results and underlying statistics, Jaissle believes the Magpies are heading in the right direction, with his methods fully supported by the squad, according to Thiaw.
The 25-year-old, who has captained Newcastle this term in the absence of Dan Burn and Joelinton, told the club’s matchday programme: “This week, I feel like we are all on the same page. There have been no arguments or heads going down.
“We have to learn these moments as a team, and we don't have too much time until the next game. We have to learn and adapt the things quickly that we spoke about.
“We know that there are always improvements we can make as a team, and not everything is going to be perfect from the first day. Everybody has to be patient as well. But I think the messages from the coach are clear.
“I would say our team is really a team that follows, so we follow the gaffer 100%.
“We also know that we are a good team, a quality team and a young team too. We have so much potential. It’s about being at our best in every single game and not having too many setbacks like we have in the last two away games.
“The potential is definitely there to have a good season.”
Jaissle and his players will hope to put their words into action when they visit Crystal Palace on Sunday. The Eagles were thrashed 5-0 by rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in their last match.
