'I don't see Eddie Howe at Newcastle United' - Alan Shearer goes public for first time on manager’s future

Alan Shearer has admitted for the first time that he expects Eddie Howe to leave Newcastle United.

Alan Shearer believes Eddie Howe will no longer be Newcastle United manager next season.

Admitting his frustrations for the first time, the Toon icon has questioned whether Howe has the fight to remain in the St James’ Park dugout. Shearer - in support of the under-fire manager - took aim at the “terrible” players for throwing their boss “under the bus” during the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth.

Newcastle lost their fourth consecutive game across all competitions at the weekend. The Magpies sit 14th - with a daunting trip to Premier League leaders Arsenal next.

‘Chucked under the bus’ - Alan Shearer

Speaking to The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer slammed the team for another weak performance. He said: “Did you watch it yesterday? The players were terrible. As tough as it is for Eddie, I don't know what's going to happen with him. I listened to his interview afterwards, I looked at him and I just thought ‘Is he going to want to go again? Is he going to get a chance to go again?’

“There are so many moving parts to it, I guess, from his point of view. I would like him to, but does he feel as if he's going to have the chance? Does he want to do it again? Are Newcastle going to have to sell? That's a different question, then.

“Has he got money to spend and he doesn't have to sell? Then yes, but I look at the players yesterday, and if that's what they call fighting for their manager, because he's under huge pressure, whether you like it or not, and if that's what they're prepared to give… they were terrible.

“They chucked him under the bus yesterday, the players. The performance was crap from every single one of them. I do look at it as a tough situation. It's a tough summer for Newcastle coming up. They've got some big decisions to make.”

Alan Shearer makes Eddie Howe admission

And when asked by Gary Lineker whether Howe should leave, Shearer predicted he will not be in the hot seat next season. He added: “As I sit here, I don't see Eddie in charge of Newcastle next season, unfortunately.

“I look at his interview after the game and I'm not sure the fight is there. I think it's a very different club now to the one that he would want to go for. He doesn't look in a good position.”
