Anthony Elanga knee injury - Newcastle United star breaks silence amid World Cup concern
Anthony Elanga went down awkwardly during a post-match training session for Sweden.
Anthony Elanga has allayed concerns after suffering a knee injury following Sweden’s 2-2 draw with Greece.
The 24-year-old is aiming to put a poor debut season at Newcastle United behind him at the World Cup. So far, Elanga - who failed to score and registered just one Premier League assist in 2025-26 - has failed to justify his £55million price tag.
He still earned a place in Graham Potter’s squad and came off the bench to play half an hour against Greece last night. However, he went down in a post-game training session and alarm bells immediately rang.

Graham Potter gives Anthony Elanga update
Speaking to the media, Sweden boss Potter ruled out a potential World Cup-ending injury. He told reporters: "I think Elanga just took a knock on his knee. The physiotherapist said it was fine. It is not something we are overly worried about right now."
‘It feels good’ - Anthony Elanga
Elanga also discussed how he aggravated the knee during the game - but insisted he will be fine in a few days. He added: "I went knee to knee against one of their (Greece) players. Then, out in training, I felt my knee again. But it feels good.
“When you get pain in your knee, you can get worried, but it feels good. It feels calm. The pain will go away in a day or two. It's completely ok."
Eddie Howe backs Anthony Elanga
Last month, Eddie Howe vowed that “the best is yet to come” and Elanga can develop into a star player for the Magpies. He said: “Obviously, Ant had a really strong year last year for Nottingham Forest. A lot of goals, a lot of assists, a lot of goal contributions.
“We obviously came up against him a few times, and I thought he was always a really strong performer against us, always gave us problems in those games against them last year. He's come to us and I think he's had some really good games for us.
“There's been some games in there where he's found things a little bit more difficult, as every player would. I still believe the best is very much yet to come for Ant here.”
