Johan Manzambi netted the only game of the game for Aston Villa against Newcastle United.

Johan Manzambi has credited Unai Emery as the key reason behind his move to Aston Villa.

Newcastle United targeted the Swiss international in the summer transfer. However, as was the case with Victor Munoz, the Magpies missed out to another Premier League club.

Villa - who could offer Champions League football - ultimately swooped in to deal Newcastle a bitter blow. Inevitably, Manzambi scored the winner as Emery’s side edged out the Magpies at St James’ Park.

Speaking post-match, Manzambi cited Emery as a key reason for his decision. He said: "I'm very happy to score today and I hope the next game both of us can score. But the most important (thing) is the three points.

"The team was really good. I played against this team in the final (of the Europa League) and it's a very good team with a big coach and I knew that was perfect for me."

Emery also praised Manzambi at his post-match press conference. He told reporters: "He's a good guy, he's very professional, he loves, with (a) passion for football. He wants to play in the way we are and the demand we have.

"He decided to join us in summer because he understood here he can progress, he can as well have his own challenges and quality challenges to improving in his career as a player."
