‘Maybe’ - Matthias Jaissle teases Newcastle United transfer plan after hilarious Geordie accent struggles
Matthias Jaissle leaned into his Red Bull Salzburg contact book to sign Amar Dedic from Benfica.
Matthias Jaissle has left the door open to use his Red Bull connections after Amar Dedic’s instant impact.
Toon chiefs stumped up £30million to sign the defender from Benfica a fortnight ago. Three impressive performances - and just as many assists - has left Newcastle fans stunned.
Full-back was a priority for the Magpies heading into the summer after Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett and Emil Krafth left. And in Dedic - who played under Jaissle at RB Salzburg - they appear to have found the answer.

Matthias Jaissle drops Red Bull hint
In a light-hearted exchange, Jaissle struggled to understand the Geordie accent when asked whether he could use his Red Bull link again. On the third attempt, the German said: “Ah ok, so you tried this way to get some (transfer) names? Not bad. It was just much easier now for him (Dedic) because he used to play in that system, with that approach, with that forward-defending behaviour, bravery…
“Also in possession, we always allow him to have offensive attacks. Top, top, top. It's not easy to join a club and then playing constantly three matches in a row on a high level. We're really pleased. And maybe there is another signing from my time back then… maybe not.”
Amar Dedic loves Newcastle United
After making his debut against Liverpool, the 24-year-old opened up about his decision to join the club. He said: “I was just really happy to feel that moment when I walked out at St James’ Park. To feel the fans. They were amazing. And I enjoyed every single second on the pitch. I was so proud.
“I’ve played in many games with good atmospheres but nothing like that. This game was so special to me - my debut. I knew the Newcastle fans had so much passion , ut every tackle, every positive moment… they celebrate it like it’s a goal!
“This is what I love. This is why I wanted to join Newcastle. A beautiful club. Beautiful fans. This is what makes me very happy.”
