Newcastle United player nominated for award with two former team-mates

Newcastle United’s Freddie Woodman is up for a top Championship award – along with two former team-mates.

The goalkeeper was in the Swansea City team which was beaten by Brentford in the play-off final. Woodman – who has spent the past two seasons on loan at the Liberty Stadium – was a key player for Swansea, and the 24-year-old has been nominated for the PFA Fans' Player of the Year award.

Former Newcastle players Ivan Toney (Brentford) and Adam Armstrong (Blackburn Rovers) have also been nominated.

Woodman – who has two years left on his contract – is keen to be playing games next season.

Speaking to the Gazette last month, Woodman said: “The older I’ve got, I’ve realised you can’t look too far into the future in football. There are so many different things that could happen. For me to sit here and say ‘I’m going to do this and do that’ is almost impossible.”
