Fraser helped Scotland overcome Slovakia, without the injured Martin Dubravka, 1-0 in a Nations League fixture at the weekend. The Newcastle United winger, signed as a free agent this summer after his contract at Bournemouth ended, partnered goalscorer Lyndon Dykes up front at Hampden Park.

“Ryan showed what he can bring to the team – he gives us that little bit of spark,” said Scotland manager Clarke. “The connection between him, John McGinn, Andy Robertson and Lyndon was good, and we were decent going forward.

“I know everybody will say we only had one shot on target again, but we created more chances, and got into more threatening positions. We created so many chances, and kept a clean sheet.”

Fraser is yet to start a Premier League game for Newcastle, having not played for six months before his move to the club.
