After a goalless first half, Newcastle took the lead midway through the second half as Joe Willock finished brilliantly from the edge of the box following a driving run from Miguel Almiron.
Newcastle head into the World Cup break inside the Preier League top four and will be in the Champions League places on Christmas Day for the first time since 2001.

6. Bruno Guimaraes - 7
Anchored Newcastle’s midfield well but wasn’t able to split Chelsea’s stubborn back-line the way he’s done in previous weeks. Had a good chance to open the scoring in the second half but saw his shot blocked.
7. Sean Longstaff - 8
Scooped the ball over the bar early in the second half. Did the dirty work very well and went about his business with minimal fuss to keep the home side on top.
8. Joe Willock - 9
Helped Newcastle get on the front foot with some energetic runs from the midfield. Was an attacking threat from the left as well as he put in a couple of dangerous balls. A great finish gave Newcastle the lead in the second half.
