There were some objections to Sunderland’s late goal from the Newcastle players, who felt the goalkeeper handled the ball on the way to finding the net.
5. Matt Bondswell - 7
Showed good energy down the left and won the ball back in some key areas. Was less impactful going forward after the break but kept his shape well.
6. Jamie Miley - 7
Made Newcastle tick early on and started an early attack with a clever interception and fine ball forward to release Westendorf. Was less influential as the game went on but kept things simple and helped recycle possession well.
7. Jay Turner-Cooke - 5
Couldn’t get on the scoresheet against his former club after curling a shot over in the second half. Was booked early on for a cynical foul and seemed to be maintaining his composure well before picking up a second yellow in the closing stages.
8. Josh Scott - 7
Was lively down the left and got into some good areas to get shots away.
