The club has used a Government scheme to furlough staff on 80% of their wages during the pandemic.
Liverpool abandoned a plan to follow suit following a backlash from fans, but Newcastle, owned by billionaire Mike Ashley, have not changed their position.
And The Mirror claim that the decision to furlough staff “went down particularly badly” with players.
Tottenham Hotspur have also furloughed staff using the scheme.
