Newcastle United ‘submit enquiry’ for Chelsea star as Manchester United ‘agree deal’ for Magpies target
Newcastle are considering a move for Mallik Wilks after he helped fire Hull City to the League One title, according to Football Insider.
Wilks, formerly of Leeds United, scored 19 goals as the Tigers earned promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.
And the 22-year-old's standout form appears to have not gone unnoticed with the Magpies, along with Crystal Palace, among the clubs showing interest.
Wilks, who can play as a striker or on the wing, has enjoyed prolific spells in the third-tier with Hull and Doncaster Rovers.
Toon flop forced to find new club
Newcastle flop Achraf Lazaar has been released by Watford, while ex-long serving goalkeeper Rob Elliot remains in talks over a new deal.
Lazaar, signed from Palmero in 2016, moved to Vicarage Road in February when his United contract was terminated six months early.
He featured five times for the Hornets, who achieved immediate promotion back to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Elliot could come up against Newcastle next season as discussions continue over a new deal.
The 35-year-old is yet to make his debut after struggling to make the bench last term.
Magpies linked with shock cut-price move
Former Derby County forward Johnny Russell has emerged as a shock target for Newcastle United according to The Sun.
The 31-year-old, a former Scotland international, is viewed as a cut-price option for Steve Bruce with his contract at MLS side Kansas City ending in December.
Russell has spent the last three years in the US, scoring 25 goals in 84 appearances as United seek a back-up to Callum Wilson.
Fulham and Sheffield United are also considering a move but the Magpies would be firm favourites to secure his signature, if they follow up on their initial interest.
