Twitter was awash with Black Cats fans sticking the boot into their Magpies counterparts in the aftermath of Rafa Benitez’s men’s relegation from the Premier League in the summer of 2016, with “Enjoy Burton away” the cry.

In the subsequent three years there’s been plenty of water under the bridge, as United returned to the top flight at the first attempt, while Sunderland were relegated to League One courtesy of Burton Albion, and then striker, and former Sunderland man, Darren Bent.

And that’s not something lost on Newcastle’s Twitter admin.

“We enjoyed Burton away…,” the club tweet reads. Followed by: “#OnThisDay , Dwight Gayle and Mo Diamé were on target as #NUFC defeated Burton Albion 2-1 at the Pirelli Stadium.”

Sunderland have lost three of their last four games against Burton, including a 2-1 home loss in November.
