Boost for Newcastle United

Some positive news on the contract front

Matty Longstaff is set to commit his future to Newcastle United and sign a new contract, according to fresh reports.

The contract saga has been ongoing for months but despite strong interest from Serie A side Udinese and newly-promoted Leeds United, The Times report 20-year-old academy product Longstaff has been persuaded to commit his long-term future to the club.

It is a big boost for Steve Bruce ahead of the new campaign, with the Premier League fixtures to be released this morning at 9am. The new season starts on September 12.

The Newcastle boss has always been determined to see Longstaff sign a new deal.

Speaking last month, Bruce said: “I don’t know what more I can do. We made the kid an unbelievably good offer. It’s up to him and his advisers to make there decision, and make that call.”
