The Telegraph claim that two further members of the first-team squad have now tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total at the club to five.

And the report says that the Magpies are now ‘waiting nervously’ to discover whether there are any more infections in the squad ahead of the Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Friday evening.

Steve Bruce confirmed prior to the visit to Crystal Palace that he would be without some first-team players due to a positive test.

Newcastle were without trio Isaac Hayden, Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles at Selhurst Park.

And he now looks to have seen his squad depleted further, with the Telegraph report saying there are ‘growing concerns’ that the number of positive cases will grow.

Reports over the summer suggested that Premier League games will not be postponed due to COVID-19 cases unless fewer than 14 senior players are available.
