The Times report that clubs are to be handed payments due to them at the end of the season.

Clubs are facing cash flow problems arising from football’s suspension during the coronavirus pandemic, and the payments will be based on the merit payments which vary according to the final league table. It’s also claimed some facility fees – payments for TV games – will also be advanced.

Newcastle were paid just over £120million by the Premier League last season. That figure included a merit payment of £15.3million for finishing 13th and facility fees totalling £22.2million for 19 UK live games.

United, 13th in the league this season with nine games left to play, also had a £34.3million equal share payment and money from international TV and commercial deals.
