According to reports emanating from South America the 21-year-old’s club Municipal Deportivo were said to be asking for around £400,000 up front for the player recently called up to the Peru national squad.

But a report from the Sun claims United will ‘snap up’ the player for just £120,000 – and will become Steve Bruce’s sixth signing of a busy summer window.

United have already spent around £35 million this summer, despite coronavirus budget concerns, by adding Callum Wilson, Jamal Lewis, Ryan Fraser, Jeff Hendrick and Mark Gillespie.

Vilca holds a Spanish passport and would not require a work permit.

It is likely he will be loaned out to a European club, in order to get experience having only played in his domestic league. Last season the player contributed three goals and three assists.

The report also claims the fee is massively reduced due to the player’s contractual situation, with his deal in Peru running down.

Speaking to the press this morning, Bruce discussed his business in the window so far. And it seems he’s happy with what he’s managed to bring through the door.

“I’m been very pleased with what we’ve done,” he said on deals.

"We had a very good performance a week earlier. We have to repair the damage and get ready to improve. There’s other teams have played poorly and don’t get the sensational headlines we get, but we have to accept that."
