Newcastle United sign striker on five-year deal - a 'key part' of Ross Wilson's plans

Newcastle United have bolstered their academy ranks with an overseas signing.

Newcastle United have signed 19-year-old striker Afner Ca following his departure from La Liga side Levante.

The Guinea-Bissau attacker has signed a five-year contract and will link up with the Magpies’ under-21s in the upcoming season.

Ca, who stands at 6ft 4in, spent time at Portuguese club Amora FC before making the move to Spain. He is yet to make a senior appearance.

Newcastle United sign 19-year-old striker

Earlier this year, Newcastle completed a deal for another overseas talent, signing Ecuadorian winger Johan Martínez from Independiente del Valle.

The 16-year-old will officially join the Magpies after his 18th birthday in the summer of 2027 and will remain with Independiente del Valle in the meantime.

When commenting on the transfer, Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson revealed that youth signings like Martinez, and now Ca, are a “key part” of how the club builds for the future.

“We’re delighted to beat off serious competition from leading clubs across Europe to bring Johan to Newcastle United,” Wilson said.

“Identifying and recruiting promising young players is a key part of how we build for the future, and our scouting and recruitment teams have worked diligently to secure Johan’s signature.

“Independiente del Valle have a strong reputation for developing young players and Johan has undoubtedly benefited from that environment. He will continue his progress there while we maintain a close connection with his development, and we look forward to welcoming him to Newcastle next year.”
