Newcastle United star ruled-out for three months after suffering foot injury
Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley has picked up an injury which could keep him sidelined for a number of months.
Miley played a crucial role for the Magpies last season amid a plethora of injury issues around him. However, a back injury suffered whilst on international duty prematurely curtailed his season.
Eddie Howe was keen to ensure the teenager was not rushed back into action too soon at the end of the campaign last year in order to protect him. Speaking in April, Howe revealed why Miley wouldn’t feature again, despite initial timescales suggesting he could be fit enough to take part before the end of the campaign: “The decision was made on Lewis to protect him long-term,” Howe said.
“We won’t see Lewis again this season. Even if there was a chance, we took that away quite early on with his age, we are just thinking about his long-term prospect.”
However, as reported by the Chronicle, Miley has suffered a fresh injury at the club’s training ground and will undergo an operation in London to fix a broken bone in his foot.
Miley is expected to be out for around three months and there are hopes he will miss only six Premier League matches before he can make his return to the first-team. The injury will keep him out of their pre-season trip to Japan, however. Miley will also miss Newcastle United’s clash with Hull City on july 27 as well as the ‘Sela Weekender’ double-header against Girona and Stade Brestois.
