Newcastle United transfer news: Magpies submit offer to Radu Dragusin as Jetro Willems eyes January exit

It’s been a near-pointless January transfer window for Newcastle United – but could that change as we approach the final week?

Newcastle United writer Liam Kennedy, in his Thursday Q&A, says the club themselves expect it will be a quiet one, but believes that could change.

"The noises from the club are that the close of the January window is expected to be a quiet one,” revealed Kennedy.

He added: “Will that change in the final few days? It might, especially if results continue to slide.

"United need a boost – and if the manager is safe, and we think he is, then a few loan deals to freshen things up would not go amiss.”

One player who has been linked with a move to St James’s Park over the last 24 hours is Juventus youngster Radu Dragusin.

According to SportsItalia journalist Gianluigi Longari, the Magpies, along with Tottenham Hotspur, have approached the defender ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season.

The Romanian, who has appeared three times for the first-team, is free to sign a pre-contract agreement now, though the Serie A giants are taking steps to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Indeed, the Old Lady are said to be working on a new contract, and remain optimistic he’ll stay.

Admittedly, given he is aged just 18, you’d expect a potential deal to viewed as one of the future.

Meanwhile, Swansea City boss Steve Cooper says he has heard “nothing at all” amid speculation linking Freddie Woodman to Arsenal.

Woodman signed a new long-term contract with United in the summer before spending a second season on loan at the Championship club.

When asked if Newcastle had made contact regarding Woodman's situation, Cooper responded: "No. Nothing at all.

"Newcastle have been good through the 18 months he’s been with us in terms of communication.

"But in terms of anything official from Swansea’s point of view we’ve not heard a thing."

Meanwhile, a former Newcastle favourite could be on the move before the deadline on Monday, February 1.
