Saint-Maximin – who conceded an early penalty – was taken off before the break with an ankle injury, while Lewis was forced off late in the game after being elbowed by Yves Bissouma, who was sent off.

“Jamal’s got a nasty eye injury,” said head coach Steve Bruce. “We’ll see how bad it is. We’re not too concerned about the cut, but he might have an abrasion in his eye, so we’ll see how he is. Allan’s got an ankle. Again, we’ll have to wait and see what happens with that.”

Saint-Maximin was caught on his ankle early in the game.

"That early incident, which he never seemed to recover from,” said Bruce. “And he needed to recover today against the boy he was playing against (Tariq Lamptey), who was all action. In hindsight maybe I should have took him off a bit earlier.”
