Newcastle United takeover & transfer news: One door opens, while another closes for Magpies

Newcastle United target Philippe Coutinho is ‘open’ to a Premier League, according to his agent Kia Joorabchian.

The Brazilian international is set to be shown the Barcelona exit door this summer having failed to impress at the Nou Camp, or on loan at Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

And Joorabchian has opened the door to a Premier League return for former Liverpool and Inter Milan attacking midfielder Coutinho.

"I don't have any preference where the players go,” he said.

“I don't try to push someone to one club or another. Everything is a possibility. After the Champions League game he played in England we had a long chat about it.

"The Premier League is something that he has always enjoyed playing in, and loved playing in, and would probably love to come back and play in.

"The question is what are going to be the financial conditions of all the clubs, including Barcelona and all the Premier League clubs at the end of this pandemic."

One player who will not be making the switch to Tyneside, though, is Colombian star James Rodriguez.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Real Madrid man is hopeful of making a move to city rivals Atletico Madrid.

Rodriguez is another player who endured a less than successful loan spell at Bayern.

Transfer talk on Tyneside remains a distant prospect for fans while takeover dominates the landscape.
