Eddie Howe makes four changes as Yoane Wissa set for second Newcastle United start
Burnley v Newcastle United: Eddie Howe has named his team for the Premier League clash at Turf Moor.
Newcastle United face Burnley tonight searching for just their second away win of the Premier League season.
The Magpies were beaten by Manchester United on Boxing Day on Friday night, a defeat that left them in the bottom half of the table having fallen further behind their rivals for European football. Eddie Howe’s side have already defeated the Clarets this season, though, winning in the reverse fixture at St James’ Park just over three weeks ago.
On that day, the Magpies overcame ten man Burnley courtesy of goals from captain Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon. A red card for Lucas Pires in between those goals, though, made their task a lot easier against a resolute Scott Parker side.
Although, they very almost threw three points away in stoppage time as Zian Flemming converted a penalty to give Burnley hope. A missed header in the final action of the game also saw Burnley spurn a golden opportunity to equalise and escape with a point.
Newcastle United know they must put in a much better performance tonight if they want to leave Turf Moor with three points. Having had just three days to rest and recover from their trip to Old Trafford, Howe hasn’t been able to call on any of his previously injured players.

That means that 16-year-old Sam Alabi remains on the substitution bench in place of Anthony Elanga who missed out on Friday night’s game due to injury. Leo Shahar and Sean Neave, both of whom are still waiting to play their first Premier League minutes for the Magpies, again make the bench.

Nick Pope returns in goal for the Magpies, over a month following his last appearance for the Magpies at the Stade Velodrome. Nick Woltemade also comes out of the starting lineup, with Yoane Wissa replacing him in tonight’s starting XI.
Joelinton makes his first start since their trip to Leverkusen earlier this month as Jacob Ramsey drops onto the bench. There’s also a reshuffle out wide as Harvey Barnes comes in for Jacob Murphy on the right of the front three.

Elsewhere, lining up against the Magpies for the second time this season is former goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. The Slovakian ended his seven year stay on Tyneside in the summer as he moved across the Pennines to Turf Moor.
Armando Broja, once a target for Newcastle United to strengthen their attacking options, starts up-front for the hosts whilst Pires, the man who was shown a red card in the previous meeting between the sides, also starts again for Parker’s side.
