Matthias Jaissle confirms Newcastle United star won't start at Millwall after serious injury blow
Newcastle United team news: Tino Livramento made his return to action from the bench against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Tino Livramento marked his return to fitness with a substitute cameo in Newcastle United’s 2-2 draw with AFC Bournemouth at St James’ Park on Saturday.
The 23-year-old has struggled with injuries in 2026, starting just four matches since the turn of the year. Still, Livramento was handed a place in England’s World Cup squad over the summer only to be forced to withdraw after picking up a calf injury on the eve of the tournament back in June.
The serious injury required surgery and saw Livramento miss all of pre-season as well as Newcastle’s opening three games of the new campaign. The full-back returned to the matchday squad and came on as a late substitute for Lewis Hall at left-back to see out the point.

Speaking ahead of the match, Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle said: "It is too early to say on Tino. He was partially involved [in training] so we need to be smart with his progress now.
“We need to wait until he is 100% ready. He has huge potential, and we can't wait to have him back.”
Joelinton is also closing in on a return from a thigh injury but Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup third round trip to Millwall will come too soon for the Brazilian. Dan Burn and William Osula will also miss the match while Ewen Jaouen is a doubt having suffered an ankle injury in training last week.
“Joelinton is out for a couple of weeks,” Jaissle added. “I am really confident that he will be back as soon as possible.”
Despite Jaissle being set to rotate his squad against the Championship side on Tuesday night, he ruled out the prospect of Livramento starting.
When asked if the England international was ready to start against Millwall, Jaissle promptly responded: “No.”
On his team selection for the game, the Newcastle head coach added: “There's always a fine line to make these decisions. I think it would be smart to wait and know how the lads are responding physically and mentally from that match, and then we have still a couple of days to make that decision. We want to come around further.
