‘They need’ - Alan Shearer sends Newcastle United board strong transfer message as 72 hours remain

Newcastle United remain active in the transfer market during the final few days of the window.

Alan Shearer has urged Newcastle United to sign another forward in the final few days of the window.

It is understood that the Magpies are pushing to bolster the squad further. Nico Gonzalez - who officially signed on Wednesday - had been the priority.

Since his arrival, attention has turned to adding a game-changer in the final third. Lille maverick Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Bilal El Khannouss are on Newcastle’s shortlist.

Alan Shearer sends Newcastle United board message

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer called upon the Toon hierarchy to add another forward to Matthias Jaissle’s ranks before the window slams shut. He said: “Against Liverpool there were some really good performances, particularly from Yoane Wissa.

“Last season was a real disappointment for Newcastle and for him personally, but he had a decent World Cup and I thought he was absolutely outstanding against Liverpool. If that's what we can expect, then that's something to look forward to.

“I also think with a couple of additions hopefully this week for Newcastle, with him back in form and keeping him fit, then who knows what can happen. Nico Gonzalez is a good signing, if they could get another forward in somehow, then I don't think that would be a bad thing either. But if they can get a couple in between now and the end of the window, that's certainly what they need.”

Matthias Jaissle ‘sells’ Newcastle United

Jaissle helped convince instant hit Amar Dedic to join from Benfica. When asked how he sells Newcastle to potential signings, the German said: "I don't need to sell a lot. With that fan base, with that history… this is a special club.

“Like I mentioned already a couple of times, we have a clear idea how we want to play football. We are brave in our approach (and) how we are targeting the future. So I think all these aspects were influencing him in a positive way, so that he finally was convinced to join us."
