The Telegraph are claiming Steve Bruce could offer Rose a Spurs escape route, with his gametime set to become severely limited at the London Stadium under Jose Mourinho.

Rose is reportedly keen to leave Tottenham in order to tie down a place in England’s European Championship squad this summer, with national boss Gareth Southgate likely to overlook players not regular picks for their club sides.

The report states: “Newcastle will consider offering Danny Rose an escape route from Tottenham.

“Steve Bruce was interested in the England left-back during the summer and has Rose on his radar following Jetro Willems’ season-ending knee injury. "

It continues: “Mourinho wants to trim his squad and Rose will be allowed to go if the right offer comes in.”

Doncaster-born Rose, who has a stint at Sunderland earlier in his career, has previously expressed a desire to return to playing in the north, having started his career at Leeds United.

Meanwhile, United's hopes of landing their second signing of the winter window look to have taken a dive with the news that Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig are in talks to sign Inter Milan's Valentino Lazaro.

The winger’s representatives were on Tyneside for the weekend win against Chelsea, but pictures have emerged in the last 24 hours of Lazaro's agent meeting with RB Leipzig officials.

At his pre-match presser yesterday, Bruce said: “It’s common knowledge his agent was here.

“We hope we can develop it. We’ll see what the next 48 hours bring.”
