Newcastle United transfer news: Magpies handed boost in player wanted by Rangers, Celtic, Sheffield United, and West Brom pursuit
Newcastle United will once again play in the top-flight next campaign.
Here, we take a look at the latest transfer talk and gossip from Newcastle United and their Premier League rivals at the Magpies prepare for another season in the top-flight:
Steve Howey delivers West Brom transfer verdict
Newcastle United have been told to sign West Brom’s Matheus Pereira by Magpies legend Steve Howey.
Howey believes his former side should consider a move for the 25-year-old in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Pereira has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League despite West Brom’s relegation.
The attacker has netted 11 goals and found six assists in 33 appearances.
Howey told This is Futbol: “I think Newcastle would do well signing him because I think he’s a decent player. You look at the teams that get relegated and they always seem to lose their best players.
“It is surprising that West Brom went down because they have got some good individual players and some of them could certainly stay in the Premier League with other clubs.”
The Brazilian has also been linked with a host of Premier League clubs including Aston Villa, Leeds and West Ham.
Newcastle United handed possible transfer boost
Newcastle United may have been handed a boost in their reported pursuit of Peterborough United attacker Siriki Dembele, with the player expected to leave the club this summer.
According to the Peterborough Telegraph, the 24-year-old could part company with Posh in the coming weeks despite Darren Ferguson’s men securing promotion to the Championship this season.
It is understood that the EFL club have offered Dembele a bumper new deal, including a lucrative pay increase, but as yet he has not put pen to paper – and hopes of him doing so are fading fast.
The versatile forward’s current deal expires in 2022, but Peterborough could be forced to cash in on him this summer to avoid losing him for free in 12 months’ time.
The Magpies have been linked with a longstanding interest in Dembele, as have a host of other high-profile clubs. Rangers, Celtic, Sheffield United, and West Brom have all been mentioned as potential suitors since the turn of the year.
