Newcastle United transfer news: Magpies ready raid for £27m defender, West Ham man tipped to make bold decision

Newcastle United are set for a busy couple of months, as they look to bring in some top quality new signings when the summer transfer window opens later this week.

The Magpies finished the 2020/21 campaign on a high, with a string of impressive results seeing the side avoid relegation with time to spare despite looking in danger of going to for much of the season.

Meanwhile, football pundit Frank McAvennie has claimed that Newcastle boss Steve Bruce made the right decision in opting to leave Matty Longstaff out of the team, amid reports that the fans' favourite will ask to leave St James' Park this summer.

The former footballer argued: “He has to go somewhere and play. They were playing without him and getting results so Bruce has been proved right there.

“It’s not a popular thing to say but he’s been proved right. The young boy wants games and I have no problem with that. If you aren’t getting a game, go and play somewhere else. If he’s that desperate, he could drop down the leagues to find football.

“He’s English as well, he won’t just sit and take the money. He will want to go and play football wherever he can get it.”

The 21-year-old old has made 20 senior appearances for the Magpies in his first two seasons, and has been capped at U20 level for England.
