Newcastle United working on £75m double swoop as third deal agreed - medical pencilled in
Newcastle United are close to signing Ajax midfielder Sean Steur and remain interested in Johan Manzambi of Freiberg.
Newcastle United are working on two midfielder signings following Sandro Tonali’s £100million move to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The Magpies have banked a guaranteed £92.5million for Tonali, with a further £7.5million dependent on certain performance-related add-ons being met.
The Gazette has been told that the money will enable Newcastle to strengthen their first-team squad in multiple positions, and they have already moved to secure one significant signing, while another is understood to be very close.

Newcastle United sign Bazoumana Toure and close in on Sean Steur
United also sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £69million earlier this summer and have replaced the left winger with Ivory Coast international Bazoumana Toure.
Eddie Howe’s side initially lined up a deal to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna but that was hijacked by Liverpool. Attention then turned to Toure, whose £43million move from Hoffenheim was confirmed on Sunday evening.
Less than 48 hours and Newcastle are closing in on another deal, with 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur set to join from Dutch giants Ajax for a reported £23million.
Sources in the Netherlands have claimed that Steur has agreed a five-year contract at Newcastle and is due to Tyneside this evening to undergo his medical and finalise his move.
The Dutchman verbally agreed new contract at Ajax earlier this year but a change in sporting director put that on hold, allowing Newcastle to swoop in.
Steur has only made 26 appearances for Ajax after breaking into the first team during the second part of last season, but has been heavily tipped for a big future.
Newcastle United remain interested in Johan Manzambi
Steur’s expected arrival hasn’t impacted the Magpies’ interest in Freiberg and Switzerland midfielder Johan Manzambi.
Newcastle have held positive talks over the 20-year-old but face strong competition following his standout performances at the World Cup. Manchester United are among the clubs linked.
The 20-year-old has scored three goals and registered two assists to help Switzerland reach the last 16. They face Colombia on Tuesday evening, but Manzambi won’t feature after suffering a knee injury in training on the eve of the match.
According to reports in Germany, Freiberg have upped their asking price to £52million.
