The traditional ‘top six’ of Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have dominated English football for the past few years.
Their success domestically and on the european stage mean they are able to build their squads bigger and packed with more quality than their Premier League rivals.
This means that ‘best XI’s’ are often dominated by these six teams, however, with a clutch of sides, including Newcastle United, trying to break this dominance, the Premier League has a lot of quality teams and players outside of the traditional ‘big six’.
Here, using data provided by Transfermarkt, we take a look at what the Premier League’s ‘Most Valuable Starting XI’ would look like without any players from the traditional ‘top six’.

5. Sven Botman (£33.72million)
The Dutchman is currently in the middle of his first season in English football, but he has adapted brilliantly to the demands of the Premier League, becoming one of its most consistent defenders. Botman is a major part of a Newcastle defence that has conceded just 17 goals all season. Photo: PAUL ELLIS

6. Tyrick Mitchell (£24.85million)
Mitchell is another Palace player that has impressed at Selhurst Park. After coming through the ranks as a youth player, Mitchell has taken to Premier League football like a natural and it’s likely that one or two ‘bigger’ clubs will be sniffing around the defender in the not too distant future. 7. Declan Rice (£71million)
Rice has impressed once again this season and it’s seen only as a matter of time before he leaves West Ham for one of European football’s elite teams. Photo: Charlie Crowhurst

8. Bruno Guimaraes (£53.25million)
The Brazilian has been simply sensational since joining Newcastle United in January 2021 and has most recently been linked with a move to Real Madrid. Guimaraes is loved at St James’ Park and will be someone that Newcastle fans hope to see the club build a team around for years to come. Photo: Michael Regan
