The 21-year-old fell awkwardly in a challenge with Gillingham striker Vadaine Oliver in the opening 60 seconds of the Pilgrims’ 1-0 season-ending defeat.

Watts lay motionless before being cared for by both sets of medical staff. He then left the field on a stretcher with an oxygen mask and taken to a Kent hospital for assessment and treatment.

However, according to reports on the south coast, Watts has since been given the injury ‘all clear’ from the hospital.

Watts, who has been on a season-long loan from Newcastle, made his 43rd league appearance for the League One outfit, his 41st start of the campaign.

Pilgrims’ boss Ryan Lowe said of the incident: "It was a freak accident, it's a collision. I know Vadaine and there is no malice in it.”
