Newcastle have lost just once in the Premier League this season with that defeat coming at Liverpool in August. Since then, Eddie Howe’s side have been in fine form, going 11 games unbeaten and winning each of their last six to move up to second in the table.
The Magpies went nine games unbeaten under Howe between December 2021 and March 2022 last season but have gone two better this season as they head into the New Year’s Eve match against Leeds United as the Premier League’s in form side.
Here we look at Newcastle’s longest unbeaten runs in the Premier League over the course of the same season. We won’t be including the 11 or 17 game unbeaten streaks in the Championship in 2016-17 and 2009-10 respectively, or the 14 game streak over two seasons in 2011 – only Premier League matches during the same season since the club were promoted in 1993.

9. 1994-95: 11 games
Newcastle's best ever start to a Premier League season saw them win nine and draw two of their opening 11 league matches. They had also won the final game of the previous season, which would extend the run to 12 matches. They were finally beaten in October by Manchester United and ended the season in sixth after winning just two of 13 matches following the unbeaten run. Photo: Chris Cole

10. 1995-96: 11 games
Newcastle's best ever Premier League season saw them come within touching distance of the Premier League title. A run of 11 games unbeaten between September and December saw Kevin Keegan's side extend their gap at the top of the table. A run of eight wins and three draws was eventually stopped by Chelsea. The Magpies ultimately blew a 12 point lead to finish second. Photo: Ben Radford

11. 2011-12: 11 games
Newcastle's best season in recent times prior to the current campaign saw them start with an 11 game unbeaten streak which included seven wins and four draws. Alan Pardew's time at the club was characterised by contrasting runs of form but this was certainly one of the highlights which set the tone of a memorable campaign against the odds. The Magpies also ended the 2010-11 season three games unbeaten, meaning their unbeaten run was officially 14 matches over two seasons by the time Manchester City beat them 3-1 in November 2011. They ended the season in fifth which marks the most recent time the club qualified for European football. Photo: Clive Brunskill

12. 2022-23: 11 games
Newcastle are currently enjoying their best start to a Premier League season this century, losing just one of their opening 16 games and sitting second in the table. A run of 11 games without defeat in the league which includes a run of picking up 25 points out of a possible 27 between October and December following a 3-0 Boxing Day win at Leicester City.
