The Premier League is set to resume in September and Steve Bruce’s side will play a number of warm-up games prior to the big kick-off.

And Barnsley have confirmed that they will face-off against Newcastle on Saturday, August 29 (3pm).

The game will be played behind closed doors at the Magpies’ Benton training base.

Barnsley pulled off a dramatic escape to avoid relegation from the Championship last season, with new manager Gerhard Struber catching the eye after an impressive turnaround.

The friendly with the Tykes will begin a very different summer for the Tynesiders.

While Newcastle usually jet-off for a pre-season tour, overseas excursions are understood to be off the cards for most clubs this summer.

Indeed, all friendlies played on home soil will be behind closed doors due to current government guidance over attendance of spectators at sporting events.
